Irish Ferries can confirm that whilst sailing from Holyhead to Dublin the James Joyce ship was involved in a collision with a bulk carrier. Irish Ferries crews train regularly to deal with incidents at sea, and the crew, including a number who are medically trained, immediately put this training into action and the incident is under control.
The ship is carrying 1,005 passengers and 102 crew and all are accounted for, with some casualties reported.
